First film opening idea that came into my mind

Before Stalker became the final concept for my film opening, my first idea was something completely different something rooted in supernatural horror. I originally wanted to create a film about a babysitter experiencing terrifying paranormal events, inspired by The Babysitter movies. The idea of blending classic horror elements with a modern babysitter story really excited me, and for a while, I was convinced that this would be the film I’d bring to life.

The Original Concept

The story would follow a young babysitter watching over a child in a seemingly normal house.

At first, everything would appear fine, but as the night progressed, strange things would start happening: objects moving on their own, eerie whispers, lights flickering. The tension would build until the babysitter realized she wasn’t alone. Something was watching her. Something supernatural.

I wanted to create a mix of suspense and jump scares, making the audience question whether the events were real or just the babysitter’s imagination. The idea was to keep things subtle at first, small, unsettling details, before leading up to a terrifying reveal.

Why I Changed the Idea

While I loved the concept, I started thinking about the practical side of filming it. A paranormal horror story would require a lot of special effects, creative camera tricks, and possibly multiple locations to really sell the supernatural element. Since I had a limited time frame and resources, I realized that making a psychological horror with a more grounded, realistic premise would be a better fit.

That’s when Stalker started forming in my mind. Instead of ghosts or demons, I shifted the horror to something more real: being followed, being watched, and the terrifying realization that you’re not safe even in your own home. While paranormal horror can be terrifying, I found that psychological horror, when done right, can feel even more disturbing because it’s something that could actually happen.

Looking Back

Even though I didn’t go with my original idea, I still love the concept of a paranormal babysitter horror film, and maybe one day, I’ll revisit it. But in the end, I’m glad I chose Stalker. The change in direction pushed me to explore a different kind of fear: the kind that lingers in your mind long after the film ends.
